Imaginary Folklore III

from IMAGINARY FOLKLORE by Marcel Rocha

about

The album closes with this track that is like a collage of subtracks. It starts with a simple melody based on a simple chord progression that’s typical of an infinite number of folk tunes around the world (the I V7 I chord progression). I played it probably (I started this track more than 10 years ago!!!) using a guitar controller (my trusty and unfortunately discontinued You Rock digital guitar). Gradually, I start to mess up with some crazy parameters and this simple melody keeps on getting weirder and weirder...ending up being unrecognizable. As this is happening, some lush synth chords start passing over like beautiful clouds in the sky...but, before things get too beautiful, I start to add a crazy drum sound that also keeps on changing and getting weird and, as if it wasn’t enough, here comes a very very strange synth solo with a sound that resembles a jackhammer. Nice touch, don’t you think?! :-)
The track keeps on evolving until a final delay manipulation wrap things up… If Imaginary Folklore I and II are like dreams...Imaginary Folklore III is possibly the nightmare! :-)
