about

This track is the one that sets the tone for the album. I say this because it was the first time I thought I got a good result in what I was looking for in terms of working with samples and loops mixed with live fingerdrumming and sound manipulation. And these are the most prominent elements on the album.
I would like to share with you this idea that was around my head at the time of this creation of...I don’t know how to put it into words but...I’ll give it a shot!
Ok, let’s go! I’m using loops, but not in the traditional way of just triggering them and letting them play. As a matter of fact - with the exception of three loops - I’m really playing them! And that was the concept I was trying to work with and evolve into a more robust musical concept. There is also some sort of ‘philosophical’ element in here after all I’m playing the loops as instruments...do you know what I mean? The loop, by definition, is an already played and recorded slice of music, but on this track I’m playing this already played slice of music! So, I can vary it, change the rhythm, the musical intention...meaning: changing the original intent and making it something new!
Continuing...we have these elements:
-Multiple layers of jazz drum and Brazilian percussion samples that are looped and/or played (fingerdrummed) on the keyboard’s pads:
-Some EDM synth bass and drums with live manipulation of the filters.
Although each layer was created live in studio, they were overdubbed live, creating an atmosphere of live electronic music - by the way, this happens frequently in my musical studio creations.
-Another thing I like to do sometimes is that this track simply doesn’t have melody and harmony whatsoever! I like this ‘only percussion’ vibe, I think sometimes musical notes are distracting and lead to some very standardized emotions :-) .
I hope I was able to create some emotion with this track...not an easy-cheesy one emotion...but not too heady also...without melody is hard to be tender. Well...what do you think?
