about

This album has the main intent to create soundscapes that are the result of the merging of ancient and contemporary traditions in the form of a sonic mosaic which renews itself moment by moment.
Brazilian and North African folklore and traditions meet controllerism, finger drumming, live sampling and live mixing.
In IMAGINARY FOLKLORE I tried to overlap those musical traditions with the contemporary possibilities of real time performance and sound manipulation: electronic music made in studio but with great emphasis on live performance.
The musical result is at the same time experimental (via the new sounds made possible by the manipulation of sound) AND traditional (via the traditional Afro-Brazilian rhythms). A somewhat new sound but with the appeal of the ancient traditions; free but never random.
In terms of musical influences for this particular album I should mention Dead Can Dance (because of their juxtaposition of ethnic, gothic and medieval), the sweet roughness of the traditional Banda de Pífanos de Caruarú, Aphex Twin (new sounds) and, because of the solid and pulsating rhythm, the Chemical Brothers.
This album was also released by the American label AURAL FILMS by the great Jack Hertz.
